We import a range of motors and matching controllers up to 15kW 150Nm. Voltages range from 48VDC - 144VDC. These motors are AC induction type and feature regenerative braking. They are suitable for inboard motors on boats and yachts and also for smaller electric vehicle conversions (<1000kg).
Features:
- AC Induction three phase motor, DC VFD Inverter type controller
- Face mount motor, keyed shaft
- Air cooled motor and controller
- Reverse function with speed limiting
- Controller has internal capacitor precharge control to prevent contact arcing on startup.
- CAN bus interface from controller
Why do car manufacturers all use AC (BLDC) motors? :
- Sealed motor and controller (IEC IP54), on series motors often the internals can be touched with a finger (IP20)
- Easy reversing controlled by the controller firmware, no messy HV wiring or external reversing contactors required
- Regenerative Braking function, puts energy back into the battery when the vehicle is reducing speed, up to 20% range extension in stop/start driving conditions.
- Speed limited rpm. No destructive runaway on no load.
- Silent operation even at 6000rpm, no noisy fan.
- Smooth flat torque curve, AC Motors have better torque at high revs, good for overtaking
- More efficient at higher revs. Series motors often have an internal fan which consumes more power the faster it goes. Not to mention sucking dust, water and insects through the motor windings.
Using the IM15 motor and SE70AHA cells it is now possible to convert a small car to battery electric for a component cost of less than $10,000
