Description
DC Motor controllers and DC/AC Inverters typically have large internal capacitors on their DC input. They require inrush protection when first powering up to prevent a large current spike which can damage attached contactors , switches or fuses.
The EV Power Precharger offers a soft start for DC controllers and inverters, limiting the inrush current via a resistive circuit to charge up the internal capacitors before automatically closing the main contactor. It can also detect faults and safely discontinue precharge if it fails to start correctly. Common faults are usually due to an external wiring fault, no battery voltage or the precharge fails to complete within a few seconds due to unexpected non-capacitive DC loads.
Notes:
– High surge currents in inverters due to large capacitors on the input stage may cause the DC contactor to weld closed.
– A precharge circuit is recommended for battery voltages greater than 12V nom.
– This unit is designed for DC battery voltages up to 360VDC nominal.
